What’s The Deal With Hair Masks?

Today is Women’s Wednesday and I will be talking about women’s health, fashion, style, and all else pertaining to women on Wednesdays! Feel free to go over to my contact section and send me any questions you have and I’ll do my best to answer them! Especially, LGBT pertaining questions, since I am a member of the cool-ass LGBT club myself!

Okay, let’s talk about hair treatments you can do at home to add shine, health, and strength to your hair! Hair masks are basically a treatment you make at home, or buy from a store, that you leave in your hair to help add vitamins and oils to the hair in order to repair damage and strengthen your hair whilst adding shine and luster to it as well. Remember that these hair masks aren’t going to repair your split ends, you’ll need a haircut for that, but they can help to moisturize, strengthen, and add shine to your hair, and just maintain its healthiness. There are a few different organic and natural hair masks and leave-in conditioning treatments you can make from home so here we have a list of them, what they do, and how to make them! Enjoy!

  1. Avocado Hair Mask
    • What it does: This mask introduces oils and vitamins that occur naturally in the ingredients to add shine to the hair and help it to be silky and smooth.
    • What you’ll need:
      • An over-ripe Avocado or two depending on how much hair you have
      • ¼ – 1/2 cup of olive oil
      • 1 tbs. lemon juice.
    • What to do:
      • First: mix all the ingredients in a bowl and combine well, make sure the avocado is well-mashed and blended with the other ingredients. It’s going to be nasty, but worth it!
      • Now apply the mixture to damp hair (I mean, I’m sure it will look just fine in dry hair too.) really focus on the ends of the hair and not so much on the roots.
      • Be careful not to leave in too long as lemon juice is, actually, a natural way to lighten your hair color (we will talk more about that later), don’t come out looking like that one time Justin Beiber bleached his hair and looked totally homoerotic…
      • Leave the mixture in your hair for about 20 minutes.
      • After about 20-30 minutes rinse this nasty shit off in the shower, shampoo like normal and it should be all shiny and great! Even better, use a wide-toothed comb in the shower to comb through while you still have the avocado shit in your hair and it will be EXTRA awesome!
  1. Egg Treatment
    • What it does: Eggs help to prevent hair loss and can even help your hair grow more! (some say, I’ve yet to see proof..) however, eggs are totally high in fat and fat is great for your hair! Proteins in eggs also help to strengthen your hair!
    • What you’ll need:
      • A few egg yolks
      • Some olive oil
    • What to do:
      • You’ll want to separate the egg yolks away from the white, save the whites to make an awesome facial mask if you want!
      • Add about a tablespoon of oil for every yolk.
      • Just as before, starting with the top of your head, work the mixture into your hair, really concentrating on the ends of the hair.
      • Place a shower cap on or tie your hair up and leave the mixture in for about 30 minutes.
      • Shampoo and condition your hair as normal and you should have nice silky smooth hair!
  1. Coconut oil and Honey Treatment
    • What it does: Coconut Oil is a great deep conditioner and can even be used in small amounts as a hair product to keep down fly-aways! Honey is great for your skin and hair! It has wonderful anti-bacterial properties and is great for healing!
    • What you’ll need:
      • 1 bottle of honey (give or take)
      • 6 tbs. of coconut oil (give or take)
    • What to do:
      • Heat the oil slightly to better combine with the honey
      • Add the honey to the oil and mix thoroughly
      • Add the mixture to dry hair and leave in for about 30 minutes.
      • Be careful not to leave in too long as honey can naturally lighten the hair.
      • Shampoo and condition as normal!

Hopefully you guys have enjoyed these three options for natural hair treatments! Let me know if you try them and what you think! Personally I have done the egg one in my EXTREMELY curly hair and did see changes to the split ends for sure. Thank you so much for reading!
